UPDATE due to COVID-19: Due to the ongoing, unpredictable health emergency we have decided to postpone this workshop until next year. I'm leaving the description in place so you can learn about this very exciting workshop and plan for when we are able to get back in the studio together!
3 Days 10am-4pm daily
with Mark Brody (visiting instructor from Portland, OR)
Aerial photography offers a new perspective on what we see. Objects in the distance become simplified, almost abstract.
Choose your own image of Earth from space as inspiration to step away from your usual style. Follow the ancient Byzantine style of tiny blocks of color to build line, form and landscape. The Coast, the mountains or the Plains; whether it’s from 500 feet or 500 miles, this view will open new ways to mosaic!
You’ll create and grout a mosaic sized 10” x 14” with materials suitable for indoors or outdoors. Find ideas for your design with Google "LandSat Image Gallery." Instructor will also bring the source book Overview by Benjamin Grant for more ideas.
This workshop will be taught by visiting artist/instructor Mark Brody of Portland, OR. Mark has been teaching mosaic in schools and art centers for the past 18 years, and is the author of "Mosaic Garden Projects" (Timber Press). Click here to learn more about Mark.
Class is limited to 10 students and pre-registration is required. Fees include a simple lunch provided in the studio each day, and coffee/tea/snacks.
